The
Wish Collection

"Make
a wish, then light a stick of incense and let
your request drift Upward to the heavens, borne
on the rising, sweet-scented smoke. Or
light a candle, write your wish on a strip of
paper, and place the paper in a wishing pot for
safekeeping. These simple rituals are two
basic but powerful forms of magic that can be
enhanced by the attractive accessories in
Axicon's Wish Collection.
The
collection includes a 4 1/2 by 3 1/2 inch ginger
jar shaped wishing pot with lid, a 4 by 2 1/2
inch square candle pot with lid, 4 inch high and
2 inch high rounded candle pots, and a 2 by 3
inch candle bowl made of ceramic with either a
crackly jade green or black glaze. The
covered pieces are decorated with kanji symbols
(Japanese writing characters based on Chinese ideographs)
for love and luck; bundles of bamboo threaded
through their lids add a pleasing touch.
Sentences of sutras from the holy books of
Buddhism grace the sides of the open candle
pots. Four different incense sets, each
with either a ceramic or wood burner and
packaged with coil or stick incense, complete
the collection. Mix-and-match designs look
best when displayed together in a groUping of
several different pieces.
I
also like Axicon's new
I
Ching Collection of metal candleholders
decorated with I Ching coins. The coins
are attractive enough to be used as decorative
ornaments in giftware and jewelry, as they are
in this collection. Candleholders are
available in a variety of designs and sizes from
a 2 by 3 inch candle in a square base hung with
an I Ching coin to a 9 inch high stand
adorned with three oversized coins that holds a
ball candle. My favorite piece in the
collection in a curved Chinese screen with three
tealight candles nestled behind a translucent
sheet of glass.
Fashioned
of black
metal, these candleholders reflect the elegant
simplicity of line that we associate with Asian
art and calligraphy. Unscented pillar
candles are wrapped in a decorative paper sleeve
printed with Chinese characters for deep
meditation. Matching picture frames
complete the collection. Like the
Wish
Collection, this groUp looks best when
several different items are displayed
together."
